The Film By Invitation festival shines a spotlight on a thoughtfully curated collection of exceptional films carefully selected from a pool of more than 360 submissions from talented students participating in various statewide local festivals. These festivals include Film By City, Sea, Vines, Eucalypts, Pasture, Online, Northern Rivers and Hospital School.

We were delighted to host Dr. Phil Lambert, the founder of 'Making Movies' in the Sydney Region, along with senior departmental officers and sponsors, for this remarkable occasion.

About Film By Invitation

A ‘best of the best’ film festival hosted by The Arts Unit.

The festival is a showcase supported by Lights, camera, action! a filmmaking resource produced by The Arts Unit, for students and teachers to learn the basics of filmmaking and how to produce their own film.

Applications are by nomination through participating in a local Film By event.

For schools that do not have access to a local Film By festival, The Arts Unit will host Film By Online and any schools wishing to be part of the Film By Invitation are encouraged to submit their film to Film By Online.

In order to be selected for Film By Invitation you must submit your film to one of the following festivals:

  • Film By The Sea (Southern Sydney) 
  • Film By the City (City Metro) 
  • Film By the Vines (Hunter Valley) 
  • Film By the Eucalypts (Blue Mountains) 
  • Film By Online (accepting all entries across NSW)
  • Film By the Hospital (Westmead Hospital School).
  • Film By the Pasture (metro South and West)

All films are to be G rated and under 3.5 minutes. Films will be assessed by an invited panel against the following rubric criteria.
