The Wasps
NSW Public Schools Drama Company 2023 'The Wasps’ by Aristophanes. Produced by the NSW Department of Education's Arts Unit in association with NIDA. Recommended for secondary students, The Wasps by Aristophanes is a wonderful introduction to Greek Theatre.

In a devised reimagining of the Ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes, 'The Wasps' examines what it means to be obsessed in the buzzing landscape of internet culture. Trapped by a tyrannical overlord in a house with no wifi, Tomoti must find a way to escape and reconnect with his friends. Meanwhile, his friends prepare to free him by wielding their own weapon: the sting of the comment section. Through farcical elements and transformational ensemble work, 'The Wasps' explores whether or not misdirection might just be its own form of tyranny.
Performance dates
The NSW Drama Company will perform 'The Wasps' at NIDA in May 2023.
The performance duration is approximately 60 minutes without an interval.

All Drama Company members will be required at NIDA for technical rehearsals from Monday 8 May to Tuesday 9 May 2023.

About the Company
The NSW Drama Company is part of The Arts Unit Department of Education's drama ensemble program and extends performers selected by audition from NSW public schools.
In 2022 The Arts Unit partnered with Bell Shakespeare Company and NIDA to present 'Just Macbeth' by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton. Just Macbeth Creative resource now available.
