Instrumental Ensembles

Years 5 to 12

Weekly music ensembles develop high-level music skills, while seasonal state ensembles meet for intensives before festival performances. Expert tutors for all ensembles, enhance the musical experience for the students.

Instrumental ensembles are open to NSW public school students in Years 5 to 12. Membership is by audition. All students must re audition every year to become a member of an instrumental ensemble.

Ensemble standards

  • Approximate standard for our intermediate ensembles (State Wind Orchestra, Stage Band and String Sinfonia) is AMEB grade 4+.
  • Approximate standard for our advanced ensembles (State Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra) is AMEB grade 6+.

Wind Ensembles

Music
Years 5 to 12
The New South Wales Public School Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) and Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SWO) perform at notable Sydney venues and tour regional New South Wales. Membership is by audition and open to NSW public school students. Ensembles rehearse weekly at The Arts Unit, Lewisham.

Orchestras

Students have the rare opportunity to play orchestral repertoire to the highest standard. Performing regularly in a range of high profile concerts, multiple performance opportunities at Sydney venues are offered throughout the year as well as tours.

Jazz Ensembles

Music
Years 5 to 12
Jazz ensembles explore skills, knowledge, and understanding of music's jazz style. They have many exciting performance opportunities appearing in Sydney's festivals and concerts, and touring.

Millennium Marching Band

Music
Years 7 to 12
The Millennium Marching Band is a dynamic group with a focus on fun and entertainment. Opportunities exist within the Band for instrumentalists, dancers and rhythmic gymnasts.
