CHARLOTTE ZARACOSTAS: Hi, my name is Charlotte Zaracostas, and I'm in Year 6 at North Ryde Public School. This is my monologue called 'Not So Evil.'

[gasp]

Oh my gosh. I thought you were a flying monkey. No, no, I mean it in the nicest possible way. I'm going to say this once. It's not my fault what my mother did. At least I didn't inherit her green skin.

In case you haven't realised, yes, my mother is Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West. But I'm nothing like her. Still, all of Oz takes it out on me for something she did while I was still in the crib playing with stuffed flying monkeys.

I don't know what it was about that Dorothy girl that annoyed my mother so much, but come on. It can't have been a good reason. I mean, yes, she killed my aunt, but tough luck that a house landed on her. And what was my mother's obsession with a pair of ruby slippers?

Seriously, if I had gone her green skin, it would have been a literal curse. All of Oz treats me bad enough. If I had green skin, they would have treated me like the real thing. My mother always says, "oh, Ella, I wish you'd been born with green skin. It would show just how evil you really are."

But I'm not evil. And that brings me to why I'm here in this clearing. I'm dancing. I dance in the clearing, but my mother doesn't know, and she'd kill me if she found out.

Yes, yeah, I know, I know. She's dead. She melted, she melted. But her spirit still lingers around, and she would be furious if she found out I was here. So run along, little squirrel. Nothing to see here.
