Film By
Kindergarten to Year 12
Film By is an initiative of the New South Wales Department of Education. The program includes festivals, workshops and teaching and learning resources in film for teachers and students from all schools in NSW.
Film By exhibits the achievements of filmmakers from K to 12 students at local cinemas as part of a series of festivals across NSW. There is also a premiere event to showcase the most outstanding films from across NSW. Film By also provides digital access to their resources as well as student and teacher professional learning workshops across the state.
This year there are many Film By local festivals running across the state, including Film By the Sea, Film by the City, Film By the Eucalyptus and Film By the Vines. To support other areas of the state who may not yet have a Film By an online festival has opened. This means any student or class wanting to submit a film will be entered into Film By Online. Submitted films for Film By Online will be accepted from Kindergarten to Year 8 students. Films can be submitted by schools on behalf of individual students or groups. The films must be no longer than 3 minutes in duration, adhere to the festival guidelines and be a G rated film.
To support students in producing high-quality films, the NSW Department of Education has produced a teaching resource called Lights, Camera, Action! which is a step-by-step guide through pre-production, production and post-production of filmmaking.
To celebrate the talents of students across NSW, Film By Invitation will then select the best of the best films from across all Film By festivals to showcase in a very exciting VIP festival which will be held in November. More details to be announced soon ...
