Warm-ups for your choir (secondary) - eClass 2 - Vocal warm-ups - 03. Lip trills

>> Back to video

LIZ SCOTT: All right. Back down to B-flat major if we could.

[chord played on piano]

We're going to do some lip trills. Now, lip trills are great because they make sure that you've got lots of air moving through your body. You have 2 options. You can do [lip trill] 'rrr'. Do it for me.

ALL: [lip trill] Rrr.

LIZ SCOTT: Or you can put your fingers like this and go [lip trill] 'bbb.'

ALL: [lip trill] Bbb.

LIZ SCOTT: Excellent. The person in front of you gets a shower, but that could be a good thing. So, in B-flat major, we're going to go, (singing) 'rrr-rrr-rrr-rrr-rrr-rrr, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah.' (speaking) Just up and down in arpeggio. Or you can do (singing) 'bbb-bbb-bbb-bbb-bbb-bbb, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah.'

(speaking) We're going to go super high. So, basses in the room, once it gets too high for you, make sure you drop the octave. OK? You can choose whenever you want to do it. Make sure you're taking a good breath every time.

Check your posture! Make sure it's good. Make sure your knees aren't locked. Make sure your head still moves in that nice, kind of wobbly way.

Here we go. 1, and a breathe.

ALL: (singing) Rrr-rrr-rrr-rrr- rr-rr, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah.

LIZ SCOTT: Ready.
